Status from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Recreation Site Status service, most recently updated Sep 9, 2026. The Corps keeps the open/closed flag for the areas it runs; county, city and state park ramps can close on their own schedule. Checked every six hours.
Two kinds of ramps
About half of Allatoona’s public ramps are run by the Corps of Engineers. The rest sit on Corps land but are leased to Bartow, Cherokee or Cobb County, the cities of Acworth and Canton, or Georgia State Parks. When the Corps closes its parks, for the season, for staffing or in a government shutdown, the leased parks usually stay open. In the October 2025 shutdown, Red Top Mountain’s Bethany Bridge ramp, the county parks and every marina stayed open while nine Corps sites closed. The full story
Launching at winter pool
From mid-November the Corps lowers the lake about a quarter foot a day, to 823 ft by January 1. Some ramps run out of concrete as it drops.
- Shallow ramps first. The Corps has closed Knox Bridge, Clark Creek South and Tanyard for low water before.
- Blockhouse has a reputation for staying usable at winter pool.
- Don’t power-load. Prop wash digs a hole at the end of the slab that the next trailer drops into.
- Watch the points. Humps, stumps and old roadbeds come up fast in the upper Etowah and Little River arms.
The main public ramps
See them on the mapCorps ramps charge a day-use fee per vehicle, paid on Recreation.gov (scan the code at the gate) or with a Corps annual pass. Red Top Mountain takes the Georgia State Parks ParkPass. County and city parks set their own fees.
Bartow County Cartersville, Emerson and the dam end
Blockhouse
One of the busiest ramps on the lake, near Old 41 and the dam. Known for staying usable in low water.
